A 3d drawing made from a single line of string one mile long manipulated to such an extent that it becomes rigid holding itself in a complex fractal like form. The piece evokes the obsessive activity of a marginal activity; twisting a line in boredom or frustration. The sculpture, itself the product of this intimate and intense relationship with material, where a material is worked and reworked, extends and prolongs this sensation in the viewer through its seemingly infinite details and highly tactile nature. It evokes our desire to touch whilst simultaneously denying our ability to grasp it in its entirety.
Mile of string, 2008. String. Approximately 45 x 50 x 45 cm.
